Multi-peaked Ben Loyal on a summer evening, viewed across Lochan Hakel. There’s gold in the Lochan - literally : in 1746, the 'Hazard', a French war sloop carrying money to Bonnie Prince Charlie, was run ashore at Melness. The crew, in trying to make their way south overland with their treasure, were intercepted at Lochan Hakel and threw the greater part of the money into the loch.
